This academic year is a milestone in the history of Master’s Academy as our doors open for our fifteenth year of operation. Master’s Academy was established in 1998 with the vision of Dr. Grant Powell and the First Church of God of Vero Beach, Florida. It began with a conviction that the Word of God should be the basis for all learning. It began with the principles of liberty and Christian self-government. The essential resource was vision! The steering committee owned a shared vision of Jesus taking up the cause of little children – 14 kindergarteners – and saying, “Let them come…” Thus began the founding of Master’s Academy.

To begin a school, committee members had to count the cost which took them beyond finite resources. They had to recognize the importance of demonstrating the Principle Approach® – the means of restoring the character of liberty to our nation, and it was this that gave them a greater vision and an eternal purpose.

It is fifteen years later. Master’s Academy is fully established and accredited, is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit, and enrolls more than 260 students, Pre-K to twelfth grade. Teachers have educated hundreds of children and developed well-equipped scholars who have graduated from colleges of their choice and have served in mission fields. The founding work has the mark of the anointing of the Holy Spirit – the freshness, the eternal vision, the worthy ideals that encourage individuals to grow and to thrive. It has been a work appointed for such a time, protected supernaturally, and attended by those who share this noble vision. Master’s Academy continues to be a mission of the First Church of God and enjoys a mutually beneficial working relationship with them and support from the Christ community.

To mark this special occasion and to thank the families, Christ community, and community at large for their vast prayers, support, and financial stewardship of 15 years, Master’s Academy will bless two local organizations that embody the calling of our mission to spiritually and academically develop students to impact the world.

The local Military Moms organization continues to reach our armed forces around the world through care packages, prayers, and letters. Our school family will bless the soldiers through our annual candy-gram sale offering a candy-gram for a soldier with each candy-gram purchase. These candy-gram packages will be accompanied by more than 275 letters written by our students, faculty, staff, and families. With the help of our Vero Beach and Sebastian Wal-Mart stores, holiday candy will be donated to our cause.

Master’s Academy has selected Lauren’s Way to be the second beneficiary of blessings this year. Lauren Weaver began this organization in 2008. At the age of seven, Lauren saw a homeless man sitting on a bench in the park downtown. The image and discovery of what homelessness was moved her to make a difference. With just an idea and all of her savings ($25), she approached her parents and asked for help in purchasing the man a Christmas present. With their matching gift and advice from The Source (local homeless center), they purchased daily hygiene items, socks and non-perishable snacks and placed them in a shoe box. She wrapped the box in beautiful gold Christmas wrap and delivered it to the homeless man in the park. Based upon his reaction and true joy, this single gift became the project now known as Lauren’s Way.

Lauren is a new student at Master’s Academy and it is only fitting to support the ministry of our students as we seek to bless those in our community. Master’s Academy will partner with Lauren to reach her goal of providing 150 boxes of items needed for families and individuals receiving care through The Source. Master’s Academy will accept donations from our families and students as well as offer a collection site at this year’s Booster Club 5k/10k run on January 19, 2013. The community is welcome to bring a donation to share in this ministry. Donations requested include: Socks, deodorant, rain ponchos, insect repellant, large nail clippers, duct tape, Mylar blankets, first aid kits, bicycle tire repair kits, and sunscreen. The Patriots’ Booster Club will also donate 15% of the race proceeds to Lauren’s Way.

Master’s Academy will make a special presentation to Pam Proctor of Military Moms and Lauren Weaver of Lauren’s Way at the annual dinner and auction: Reflections, An Evening in the Son, which will be held February 15, 2013 at Master’s Academy. A portion of the auction proceeds will be donated to both organizations.
