Master's Academy first offered a program for students who learn differently in the fall of 2003. The SEARCH and TEACH Program is available for qualifying students in kindergarten and grade one. The NILD Discovery Program is available for qualifying students in grades two through high school. SEARCH and TEACH is an early intervention program for students with deficits in auditory or visual perception. Potential students for this program are screened at the beginning of kindergarten. Qualifying students meet individually with an instructor for intervention three times a week for 30 minutes each session. The NILD Discovery Program is a one-on-one, non-tutorial intervention program for students diagnosed with a specific learning disability. An educational therapist provides individualized therapy for students experiencing frustration in areas of school performance, including the inability to express thoughts verbally or in writing, difficulty in reading or math, poor spelling or handwriting. The interactive and cumulative effect of specific techniques builds circuitry within the brain leading to more efficient cognitive processing. Students in the Discovery Program meet with an educational therapist two times a week for 80 minutes each session. The average length of therapy is three years with some students needing up to five years, depending upon the severity of the deficit and/or consistency with which they practice the techniques at home and during therapy. Potential students for this program are diagnosed through a battery of tests given by the educational therapist and a certified educational psychologist.
In the fall of 2005, Master's Academy was approved to accept students under the McKay scholarship program for students with learning disabilities and a current IEP. For more information, please contact: Mrs. Jona Jeremy – NILD Program Coordinator
