Master’s Academy Earns ACSI Accreditation

Vero Beach, Florida – June 24, 2009 – Master’s Academy received notice of accreditation by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) on June 8, 2009, following an intensive and extensive process of self-evaluation.  This announcement came just eight days after the school graduated its first senior class.  “Graduation and accreditation mark the fulfillment of a vision,” says Dr. Powell, the school’s headmaster since its inception in 1998.  “This accreditation doesn’t define who we are, but the self-examination process does confirm that we educate and operate in accordance with our philosophy, and that we meet the standards of excellence required by ACSI.”

Accreditation also allows Master’s Academy to partner with Microsoft™.  “Our high school students will be given a unique opportunity to earn certifications in Microsoft™ software applications and information technology as a result of an exclusive agreement between Microsoft™ and ACSI.  Students will also have the opportunity to take web design classes from Certified Microsoft™ personnel present on campus,” states Yale Dampier, Master’s Academy IT Director.  This agreement designates Master’s Academy as the first school in Indian River County with the ability to enhance and broaden their educational offerings by networking with other ACSI accredited schools and the international technology conglomerate.

Dr. Powell sees the accreditation as evidence that the educational program is consistent with the school’s values and priorities.  Accountability to an objective organization helps insure continued excellence in every aspect of the school’s operation.  The process, conducted by faculty, staff, school board and parents over a four-year period, measures standards, performance, integrity and quality against nationally accepted best practices and standards.  Of primary importance to ACSI is that a school’s operational practices confirm its stated philosophy.

At Master’s Academy that philosophy focuses on partnering with parents to prepare students for their future stations in life by helping them to develop a Biblical worldview through an emphasis on researching, reasoning, relating and recording using the notebook method.  The school employs the Principle Approach® curriculum, which presents the Truth of God’s Word as the basis for each subject, and its principles as the starting point for all reasoning.

During their February visit, the accreditation team performed an audit of the school’s internal study, culminating in a summary report including commendations and recommendations in each of the ten study areas and sub-categories.  Perhaps the most gratifying of the commendations was for “the commitment, dedication and passion of the administration, faculty and staff to the ministry of Master’s Academy.”

Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, ACSI provides programs and services to strengthen and equip its 5,300 member schools in over 100 nations.  Master’s Academy is the first Principle Approach® school in the southeast to be accredited by ACSI.
